As an Old Weather Transcriber and Editor Chris, (haniba94) was a huge part of our community. He transcribed and edited the most, but also contributed hugely to the fun that we all had in our forums. He will be sadly missed. RIP Chris.

Chris has been ever-present in my mind since I heard the news.I count myself lucky to have had the chance to meet Chris, as a house-guest of Linda and Rune and Svante, and Freja, and once at an evening party at their apartment building.Since I first met Chris, I have always admired him and thought him brave. This feeling has only increased over time, and I continue to feel it strongly. As recently as January 4 I had a phone conversation with Linda in which we talked about Chris, in the context of a conversation about my 13 year old son is on the autism spectrum and who is having some challenges now as the pressures of school and life ratchet up. Chris always seemed to me to have more similarities to my son than any older person on the Spectrum I've met, and that made me feel closer to him than would normally have been the case for someone I met only a few times. Chris has an extraordinarily loving and generous family, and if I can create such an atmosphere of love for my son as he grows older that will help him, as I know it has helped Chris and added so many positive things to his life.I will remember Colin with great warmth and he will always be an inspiration for me. I also wish love and good things even if mixed with sorrow which is always as much a part of life as joy to Chris's family: to Linda, Rune, Svante, Freja, Colin, Mark and Brigitte.

Christopher was in my sister's class at our highschool and I remember him as a boy and very young adult.Thanks to him, some students and teachers first learned that it is OK to be a bit different and he enriched the lives of many. Auch wenn wir uns nach der Schulzeit leider aus den Augen verloren haben, sind wir doch zusammen aufgewachsen und haben viele gemeinsame Erinnerungen. Wir haben uns täglich gesehen, kannten die Stärken und Schwächen voneinander und haben Chris‘ Entwicklung von einem zurückhaltenden Jungen, der mit der Zeit immer mehr aufblühte, miterleben dürfen. Chris hat auch unsere Entwicklung beeinflusst und uns viele Dinge gelehrt, die nicht in den Schulbüchern standen.Wir haben Chris als einen lustigen und besonders hilfsbereiten Kerl in Erinnerung, dessen Augen immer gestrahlt haben, wenn er uns nach den Ferien von seinen Sommerurlauben in der Heimat erzählte oder uns seine Erdnussbutter zu den Klassenfrühstücken mitbrachte.Chris war nicht nur unser Mitschüler, sondern ein Teil unserer kleinen und „chaotischen“ Gemeinschaft, wie er sie nannte, der er einen ganz besonderen Stempel aufdrückte. Umso trauriger macht es uns, zu erfahren, dass Du viel zu früh von dieser Welt gegangen bist.Unser Beileid und tiefstes Mitgefühl gelten Colin und Chris’ Familie. Wir wünschen Euch ganz viel Kraft in dieser schweren Zeit. Chris was family and though distance kept us from seeing each other we are devastated at his loss. We knew Chris most through his relationship with his Grandmother, Agnes Vigilant. Throughout the years she would share him with us through her time spent with him at her home at the Jersey Shore, phone calls and emails. Through these exchanges we knew him as a kind, loving and thoughtful young man. Our hearts are with his family, Linda, Mark, Svante, Colin, Rune, and Freya and everyone who will miss him forever.

One of my fondest memories of Chris is also one of my earliest. I was visiting you in Pennsylvania. I don’t remember how old Chris was … old enough to run around. Although he was apprehensive of me at first, by the first evening we were playing together.A few days later, we went somewhere – I don’t recall exactly where, but it was likely some sort of farm. For some reason, Chris and I wound up alone together (again, I don’t remember why). Anyway, a man drove up in a tractor, towing a flatbed trailer with a couple of crates of apples. He parked the tractor and walked off. I could tell that Chris wanted a closer look (he was very interested in machines and machinery), so I seized on my chance to be the dutiful uncle. I picked him up and walked around the tractor and trailer, pointing out the various parts (and pretending I knew something about farm equipment), and holding him up so he could see into the crates where the apples were.A couple of minutes later, the tractor driver came back with a forklift and started unloading the trailer. Of course, Chris had to see that. As we stood watching, I felt my side where I was holding Chris suddenly grow warm. I looked down, and Chris had a very satisfied smile on his face.

I last saw Chris at the Distillery in December. He seemed to enjoy the party. Little did I know about his struggle with life. As a recent parent I can only start guessing the pain that his loved ones are going through. My deepest condolences Linda, Mark, Svante, Brigitte, Colin, Rune and Freja. May he rest in peace!

Die Nachricht, dass Chris gestorben ist, hat mich wie ein Schlag getroffen. Sieben Jahre lang waren wir zusammen in einer Klasse auf dem Gymnasium. Auch danach haben wir uns ein paar Mal getroffen, das letzte Mal vor drei Jahren – kurz vor Corona.An die gemeinsame Schulzeit erinnere ich mich noch sehr gut. Besonders ist mir ein Vortrag in Erinnerung, in dem er versucht hat, der Klasse zu erklären, was Synästhesie ist. Dass er Zahlen mit Farben sieht, fanden viele faszinierend, aber verstanden hat es eigentlich keiner – nur ich kannte das von mir selbst. Danach haben wir uns über unsere Farben ausgetauscht und herzlich gelacht.Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, mit ihm auch über das Abitur hinaus den Kontakt behalten zu können. Ich kann mich an einige lustige, aber auch sehr tiefsinnige Gespräche erinnern. Dass du, Chris, jetzt nicht mehr unter uns bist, macht mich traurig. I'll always fondly remember the summers Chris and I spent in New Jersey and his letters throughout the years. Few these days put in the effort to write a long message just to check in, and I was always impressed by his positive attitude, curiosity, and general kindness. A truly caring and gentle soul that I've met few akin to.

Es ist eines der schwersten Dinge, zu begreifen, dass ein Mensch von uns gegangen ist. Unsere Zeit mit Chris war kurz und wir sind für jeden gemeinsamen Augenblick sehr dankbar. In den vergangenen Wochen gab es immer wieder diese Momente, in denen uns sein Fehlen auf besondere und schmerzliche Weise bewusst wurde - es waren die alltäglichen Begegnungen im Treppenhaus, der lockere Smalltalk im Garten aber auch vertrauliche oder inspirierende Gespräche, die uns so selbstverständlich erschienen und nun ausbleiben. Wir nehmen friedvoll Abschied und sind mit unseren Gedanken bei Linda, Svante, Colin, Rune, Freja und der Familie Stoneking.

I first met Chris at the Nobel party in Distillery. He approached me with a warm smile on his face and shared how much he was enjoying the festivities. Ich bin sehr traurig über die Nachricht, dass Chris jetzt nicht mehr da ist. Er war ein ganz besonderer, herzensguter Mensch.Das ist mir von Anfang an ihm aufgefallen, denn er war in der Zeit, in der ich neu in Leipzig war, viel für mich da. Er hat mir zum Beispiel die Stadt gezeigt, mich zum Fußball mitgenommen.Außerdem essen wir beide gerne. So kam es, dass wir auch ein paar Mal zusammen gekocht haben. Ich kann mich noch sehr gut an einen Abend erinnern, an dem Chris, Hannah und ich zusammen eine Pizza gemacht haben. Chris war vom Resultat nicht unbedingt begeistert. Am Ende hatten wir noch ziemlich viel übrig und als wir fragten, was er mit den Resten machen würde, sagte er: „Ja, die Pizza… mal sehen, was mit der passiert.“ Was wir aus der Aussage raushören konnten, war: Die werde ich entsorgen. Als wir Chris fragten, ob er das damit sagen wollte, war es ihm ein bisschen unangenehm. Wir nahmen es aber mit Humor und konnten am Ende alle drei darüber lachen. Gerade deine ganz besondere Art ist der Grund, dass es so viele schöne und lustige Erinnerungen an dich und mit dir gibt. Ich bin dankbar für unsere Freundschaft und werde dich vermissen. It is with much sorrow that I mourn the passing of my beloved nephew, Chris. A sensitive, considerate young man who often expressed his love of family. We spent every summer together at the family beach house in New Jersey. These were golden summer days where Chris grew to love the ocean—even last summer still the first to plunge into the surf and ride the waves the longest. I think it brought him joy. I will always miss Chris, but have many memories of him to make me smile.

Ich habe diese Nachricht soeben erfahren und bin sehr traurig. Ich kannte Chris als aktives Mitglied der Leipziger Software-Entwickler Szene. Er hatte Spaß an seinem Beruf so dass er auch außerhalb des normalen Jobs den Austausch unter Gleichgesinnten suchte.Beim letzten Global Day Of Code-Retreat saßen wir noch nebeneinander. I am so sorry for the loss of Chris. He really was a great guy. I enjoyed the times that my wife Carol and I lived with him in the communal area of Svante's big Reudnitz building. He was fun to play board games with, talk about graphic novels with, and just hang around with in general. Carol and I were just talking about him fondly the night before we learned that he had passed. My deepest condolences to Linda, Mark, Colin, Svante, Rune and Freja.

Mit Bestürzung haben wir vom Tod unseres ehemaligen Schülers Christopher Stoneking erfahren. Er war bei uns ein wissbegieriger und fleißiger Schüler, höflich und durch seine Leistungen bei seinen Mitschülern und Lehrern anerkannt. In den vielen Jahren, in denen er unsere Schule besuchte, hat er eine positive Entwicklung genommen, die sich dann auch in seinem weiteren Leben fortsetzte. I remember Christopher mainly as a little boy. He always had a smile on his face. Geschockt und fassungslos. Auf das „Warum und Wieso „ wird es keine Antwort geben. Habe ich Chris doch zuletzt froh und glücklich meine Wohnung übergeben und er war beim Umzug so motiviert. Christopher was a very valued colleague in our company. Since we learned of his death, we try to process this loss with conversations and fond memories of him. One very special memory we would like to share was a late afternoon in May where we were at a work event together with Christopher in Cologne. As we waited outside the hotel, Christopher came with bright eyes to show us something. A few meters behind the hotel was a small watering hole. Around this watering hole about hundred geese were looking for food in the middle of the city. Around us some mama geese were taking care of their newly hatched chicks and right in the middle of it we were able to watch the families walk in the sunset until they dived into the small lake next to it. It was a small but magical moment that we would never have been able to witness without Christopher. We will always hold this memory of Christopher and his loving and sensitive nature in our hearts. We wish Christopher's family and friends a lot of strength during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you.

We were all deeply saddened by the news of the death of our colleague Christopher. Christopher worked for our company Faktor Zehn, as a software developer since April 2022. We got to know and appreciated Christopher as a friendly, courteous and very capable colleague. Every time we met I enjoyed immensely. As a financial advisor you meet all kinds of clients and you like some more and some less. Chris was fantastic. Being this unique spirit and equipped with that mind of his it was always a blast to get in contact again and catch up either via zoom or in person. Watching him grow with his job, him teaching me about some of the insights of coding, me teaching him about developments of the market, debating political developments or just talking about video games, we spent 2 hours minimum each time and it felt more like a friendship rather than a professional relationship. Wherever you sail…godspeed! You will be missed.

We have been devasted by this news and are so incredibly sorry. We have been talking and thinking a lot about Chris these last days: About his routines. About his Lego expertise and his concentration when unpacking a new set. Of how he sat with a book in the garden, reading. Of how he stood fascinated by the campfire. Of how he liked the food that usually came with it. Of how he enjoyed chasing the kids round the garden. Actually, the list is much longer because the memory of our time in the Heinrichstraße is inseparable from the memory of Chris.Up here in the north, where we are now, it is impossible to imagine the Heinrichstraße without him. My memories of Chris are linked to group meals, when he was young. There were varying groups of people coming together for one purpose or another, and Chris would be along, kind and respectful to everyone, sharing the food, being himself. It was with deep regret that my wife and I learned of Christopher's death. We didn't know him well, but we often saw him in the garden and also toasted with him at neighbourhood meetings and had one or two conversations. I always felt a bit special that Chris gravitated towards me at events we both attended over the years. He always had something fun to tell me about, like a new Lego set, cool perks with his job, and the citizen science work he was doing. Most recently it was about his love for Lily, and more importantly, her love back. The world has lost such a kind, loving and good person. I send you my biggest condolences Linda, Mark, Svante, Brigitte, Colin, Rune, Freja and Lily. Rest in Power Chris.

Chris was a guest at my house for several years now as a member of our board game group and when i learned about this, i was completely speechless and could't sleep for days. I always felt connected because of your special conditions. Thanks for your trust. I have no idea how i earned it.4 days have passed since i got that call and i have no idea what to say but: We will remeber you! Always! It will never be the same without you. I only knew Chris when he was young and my family stayed downstairs in the guest flat at Heinrich Strasse. I remember having a lot of fun one Christmas making improvised costumes with him out of some kind of streamer or wrapping tape. He was very kind to and engaging with my then one year old son. I am very sad to hear that he is gone. My sincere condolences to Linda, Svante, Colin, and the rest of the family.

I can't believe the news about Chris. It is absolutely heartbreaking, and I am so utterly sorry for your loss.Chris was a volunteer with Old Weather, right from the start eleven years ago. Without a doubt, he transcribed more weather data than any of the other volunteers, passing the 1,000,000 mark many years ago. He was fast, he was accurate and, above all, he was fun. He was the banker for our Shipopoly games and, unlike many of our volunteers, he was often chatting on our forum.Through Old Weather, I've know Chris for eleven years. I will miss our monthly chats on Skype, and I am so very sorry I never got to meet him in person. He was a good friend. Fair winds and following seas may forever you feel, upon your cheek, the salty breeze. Your spirit lives on in many a heart, your words captured and never to depart. May your loved ones be comforted knowing that heaven is where you are going. For all that they have to do is look above, and they will be reminded of your love.

I just learned about this, and it hit me like a truck. I did not know him too well, but he started playing in one of my tabletop roleplaying games last month, and he was just starting to discover that wonderful hobby.It is a tragedy that he died so young.My condolences to his family.

Chris was ten or eleven years old and broke down in utter despair over the food. He cried and cried, and finally managed to say, between his sobbing. "Too much pepper on the pork!" The way Linda dealt with this, with infinite love and patience, made a great impression on me. What dark sadness! We think about all the fun we have had together in Vånga and how knowing Chris and his family have enriched our lives in so many ways.
